I understand they are only available in Rolls Royces but I wonder how hard is it to remove an automobiles headliner and put in a custom starlight headliner with fiberoptics? I understand it would take a great deal of time but the end result would be totally worth it.
And Tiffany Blue will always be the best color for any interior

Get an EL(electroluminescent) panel and put a piece of laser cut fabric over it.

Not that hard really, but its all about how well its executed. I personally thinks its as cheesy and gaudy as it was when it was done in themed cottage I stayed on for my first anniversary.

My sisters and I had starlight ceilings before Rolls Royce.

Those were so cool

I would have to see it in person but considering I often sit out and look at the stars on a weekly basis I think it would be cool to have a similar effect every night I get into my car.

That is expensive and where does the big ugly black box go?

Meh, until Rolls starts using GPS info to match the liner with the constellations above you, it’s plebian at best (though them installing the “twinkle” update was a nice touch).

That is an interesting soultion

DID SOMEBODY SAY STARLIGHT?!?!

They can install the headliner to match the star layout when the Titanic sank in 1912. I would say that is pretty good

No idea, but that was the first one I found on Google, and where there’s one, there are almost certainly others. That said, it doesn’t strike me as particularly expensive, given that you’re always going to pay a bit more for a kit. If I read it rightly, the $700 one has over 4km of optical fibre, and that stuff’s not cheap.

Honestly I would pay for it probably. My only issue is that black box is about the ugliest thing I have ever seen

Psh, like anyone under 100 years old and not drowned is going to call them out if it’s wrong.

It would be easy to get the information. Considering stars is how boats navigated the charts from that night wouldn’t be too hard to find

Fine, I concede, that’s pretty badass.

I get the impression it’s supposed to be mounted out of sight somewhere. With 5m of fibre to play with, you ought to be OK.

I’d say mount it in the trunk.

Maybe under a seat. Maybe their idea is that you can leave it in plain view, because if people are looking at that instead of the headlining, what was the point?

By that logic, why buy a nice car when you can just strap a dead coyote to your hood? :P
(Rats. I was looking for just such a picture. I thought I had one. I know I spotted a dead coyote that someone had put on someone’s hood as a prank in my home town a few years back. Redneck humour, I guess).

Why not? A good coat of dirt is much easier to acquire than a good coat of paint, too.

Go one better. Make it so that it’s actually a reflection of the proper night sky with all the constellations and such.
Would be a great linked modification if you're into your stargazing...
![]() 12/11/2015 at 07:31 |

That wouldn't be too hard to do. Just need to look at a constellation chart

Have you had a look into stage equipment? You can get starcloth sheets with LEDs in them, which I presume they use for backdrops etc. Cheapest I could find would set you back about £180 ($273.10) for 3M by 2M, though, so you’re probably better off getting the fibre optic stuff that someone else mentioned.
Another option, if you don’t mind something a bit more ethereal, would be fiber optic cloth; not exactly starlight, but would probably look cool;
That stuff’s pretty expensive too, though; think you’d be rocking in at about $400 on that, as a rough estimate. The cheapest option would probably be to just salvage as much optical fibre as you can from things (TOSLINK cables, fibre optic ornaments etc. and patch it together yourself. You could probably get it together for ~$50-$100 that way, depending on what you got where.

I would have to look into it. I like your first idea. I didn't know stage equipment like the led light fabric was available

Ya, surely it has to mount in the trunk, sneaking the cables up the C pillar?
